BCoT’s Creative Industries department have recently unveiled advanced plans for a groundbreaking digital production studio, propelling creative education into the future with a multitude of cutting-edge technologies.

At the core of this innovation is a professional-grade green screen studio, boasting two RED Komodo 6K cameras fitted with Mo-Sys Star Tracker Maxs; an Xsens MVN Link motion capture suit; a high-end colour grading workstation with professional grading panels for Davinci Resolve; a professional lighting grid; and a premium video editing workstation – all seamlessly integrated with Unreal Engine.

This impressive combination of advanced tools is set to redefine the educational landscape, providing an immersive and interactive hands-on learning experience like never before.

The RED Komodo 6K cameras (renowned for their unparalleled image quality, colour science, and groundbreaking global shutter sensor technology) work in tandem with the Mo-Sys Star Trackers (a real-time optical camera tracking system) in order to capture every detail with incredible precision. This dynamic duo lays the foundation for the creation of real-time virtual environments, where the physical and digital worlds meet.

Alongside this is the Xsens MVN Link motion capture suit, allowing learners to bring animated characters to life in a virtual space.

The studio’s commitment to excellence extends to the high-end colour grading workstation, ensuring that the visual output maintains the highest standards of quality. This feature elevates the production value of content, making it visually compelling and engaging while the professional lighting grid further enhances the visuals, creating an environment that mirrors real-world scenarios and amplifying the immersive nature of the learning experience.

Alongside the visual aspects is the video editing workstation, providing learners with the tools to craft polished and professional content. This feature not only streamlines the production process but also equips students with valuable skills in media production and editing – skills that are increasingly relevant in today’s digital age and the creative industry.

The collaborative potential of the studio encourages students to work together on projects, enhancing not only their academic understanding but also their teamwork and communication skills.

In an exciting convergence of disciplines, Creative Industries BCoT Art & Design students will contribute to the filmmaking process by constructing sets and props; designing and making costumes, and creating concept illustrations and storyboards.

This multidisciplinary approach provides students with a holistic understanding of the filmmaking process, encouraging collaboration between the different creative disciplines.

In line with this, the integration of 3D modelling capabilities allows the department’s game art students to contribute by crafting virtual environments, props, and animated digital characters. This relationship between filmmaking and game development technology promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration, pushing the boundaries of creativity and mirroring the processes of the professional industry.

BCoT’s Virtual Production studio stands as a testament to the merging of cutting-edge technology with education – with RED Komodo 6K cameras, Mo-Sys Star Trackers, XSENS MVN Link motion capture suit, ultra-high-end colour grading and video editing workstations, and a professional lighting grid, the studio offers an unparalleled platform for immersive and interactive learning experiences.

As it pioneers this transformative era in education, Creative Industries BCoT is setting the stage for a future where innovation and technology redefine the boundaries of learning.
